ABOUT

About Habataki Art Foundation

The Habataki Art Foundation was established to publish art works donated by private benefactors available to the public. Approximately 100 works of contemporary art, mainly by Yayoi Kusama, are on display at the Habataki Art Museum on the Internet. Habataki Art Foundation collects contemporary art works based only on the artistic and universal qualities of the works in its collection. Habataki Art Foundation operates with its own assets as its sole source of funding, and we believe that this financial independence will support our high philosophy in contemporary art for many years to come. Your understanding and support would be greatly appreciated.

Many of the works in the collection are tranquil and serene, mainly by "Mono-ha" artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Shio Suga, and Lee Ufan. Although the majority of the works in the collection are small in size, many of them are of great value in terms of modern Japanese art history, as they represent works from the early period when Kusama was still not so well known.

The Foundation hopes that as many people as possible will be able to view these works, so we have prepared three commentaries in Japanese, English, and Mandarin Chinese. The commentary can also be read out loud by a professional narrator, or only the artwork itself can be displayed. We strive to make the commentary texts plain enough for experts and up-and-coming critics to understand, even those who are not familiar with art.
